Leica M3 camera with top and bottom plate from a series of finish plating samples, circa 1955/56. When a change in chrome finish plating for Leica M3 was discussed among a relevant board of officers at Leitz Wetzlar in about 1955/56, several sets of parts for two different versions of chrome plating were produced. Those were marked “Chrom Muster 1” and “Chrom Muster 2”. The camera for sale here equipped with parts engraved “Chrom Muster 1”, the bottom plate engraved internally. The shutter crate with a cartouche for the place of the internal serial number. A similar unit is pictured in Shinichi Nakamura “Leica Collection” on page 36, this camera has been authenticated by Lars Netopil.
