Leitz Wetzlar rare original pre-series Summicron 1:2/9cm lens. The SOOZI Summicron 9cm lens was introduced in 1957 and produced by Leitz Canada, beginning with 1.4 Mio serial numbers. Interestingly, a quite similar design of a 9cm Summicron lens with separate lens hood was designed at Leitz Wetzlar already more than three years earlier. The Wetzlar SOOZI lenses appear between serial numbers 1119001 and 1119100 and can be considered as the prototypes of what later turned into the Canadian 9 cm Summicron design. In fact, the lenses are much more different that just the "Wetzlar" or "Midland" engravings: The Wetzlar SOOZI lenses are shorter in length and so suggest even a different optical computation. The diaphragm ring of the Wetzlar lenses has a rotating index to a fixed scale, while the Canadian version has a rotating scale to a fixed index. It is unknown, whether all of the 100 serial numbers were used in fact for produced ensues of the Wetzlar version. In any case, the lenses are extremely rare and exist in screw-mount as well as in M-mount versions. The lens here comes with both caps. Compare Lager Vol. II (lenses) pages 74 and 200. This lens has been authenticated by Lars Netopil.
