Leicina Double Eight prototype with M Bayonet
ESTIMATE:HK$ $130,000-$180,000
Serial no.08-036.001,N/A,Condition A-
Here is a Leitz Wetzlar rare original experimental unit of a Leicina Double Eight camera, numbered “08-036.001”. Usually the Leicina Double Eight cameras exist as models 8S with interchangeable “plug-in” DYSON lenses, 8V with Schneider Vario or 8SV with Angenieux zoom lens. The Leicina 8 series started in 1957, when there was already a great success on the Leica M3 system. In this context a few experimental units of Leicina Double Eight cameras with M bayonet lens mount were completed. The one for sale here lacks the “Leitz” branding. Not completely working but this is the first one of the series as the serial number indicate this is prototype 001. This is an iconic in that it is the only Leicina to accept M bayonet lenses until the advent of the Leicina Special. Complete with a mock-up of an experimental DYSON-M lens (tube only). This camera has been authenticated by Paul-Henry van Hasbroeck and Lars Netopil .
